Chemical hazards - in laboratory handling
various types of chemical is a common practice with so much
chemicals around there is great risk involved with it. These risk
are as hazards. Various chemical hazards are-
- Contact with chemicals : the nature of
chemical varies in laboratory some are acids some are bases. Coming
in direct contact with can cause burns bur skin problems.
- Explosive chemicals: some chemicals are so
volatile that if kept unchecked can cause explosion in the
lab.
- Poisonous chemicals: there are various toxic
chemicals , inhaling them by mistake can be lethel.
- Radioactive element: there are some elements
which are radioactive in nature. Proper care is needed to handle
them.
Electric hazards : for experimentation we need
various types of electrical instruments, machines and circuits. The
hazard related with this is known as electric or energy hazard.
- Electric shock: the most common risk involved
with electric instruments is electric shock. In labs high voltage
and current can be used for experiment. There is always risk
involved with that.
- Short circuit: with very large number of wires
involved a wrong connection can lead to such accident. With so much
apparatus involved this can be a common mistake.
- Electric heating: there always heating with
the electric instruments. Keeping that in light instruments should
be handled with great care as this can cause burns or sometime fire
not to mention the damages in instruments.
