1) Imagine an object moving horizontally with uniform (that is, constant) velocity. Sketch the position time and velocity-time graphs for this motion.
2) Imagine tossing an object straight up into the air, then catching it. Sketch the position-time and velocity-time graphs for this motion, from the moment it leaves your hand to the moment just before it lands in your hand.
3) Imagine tossing a ball slightly upwards and towards another person. Consider the motion from the moment the ball leaves your hand to the moment just before it lands in the other person’s hands. Draw the trajectory for the ball. In how many dimensions is the object moving?
ANS 1 -> The position time graph determines the change in position of the object. The speed of the object as well can be determined by using the line graph.
Here the time lies on the X- axis and position lies on the Y- axis
The position vs time graph for an object moving with uniform velocity in the horizontal direction is a straight line passing through the origin and having a positive slope.
The velocity vs time graph for an object with uniform velocity in the horizontal direction is a straight line parallel to the x axis.
ANS 2- > the position time graph for the object tossed straight up in the air and then catching it is a parabola, as shown below in the image.
The velocity time graph for an object tossed in the air and then catching it. Let us consider that the object is leaving the palm of the
Hand with 20 m/s velocitu and it goes straight up and it becomes zero velocity and then it comes back to the palm pf the hand with a velocity of -20 m/s. And all this happens in 4 seconds time.
The graph is given below.
ANS 3-> The trajectory that the ball follows is as below
The ball follow a parabolic path from one person to another person
As for the Dimensions in which the ball is mmoving.Theball is moving in Two Dimensions. The ball is in Two dimensional Motion.
If by any chance the ball starts moving sideways, i.e, left and right and three dimensional motion comes into play.
