diabetes mellitus, hypertension, smoking, and obesity. On a recent
physical exam, her total cholesterol level was 350 mg/dL, her LDL
was 210 mg/dL, and her HDL was 35 mg/dL. Her physician prescribes
atorvastatin, along with lifestyle modifications.
1. Susan asks the nurse why the lifestyle modifications are
necessary since she will be taking medication for her dyslipidemia.
How should the nurse respond? Describe the necessary lifestyle

Susan.

1. The nurse should inform Susan about the benefits of lifestyle changes. Informing Susan about the adverse effects of poor lifestyle can also help her understand the importance of developing healthy habits. Informing Susan about the most effective lifestyle changes can further enhance her health outcomes and speed up recovery. The necessary lifestyle modifications recommended for Susan involve:
· An active life style: since Susan have diabetes mellitus, and obesity so having an active lifestyle with some helpful exercise can help Susan.
· Smoking cessation: smoking increase the risk and impacts of hypertension hence Susan must be recommended to avoid smoking.
· Healthy diet plan: medicine alone cannot manage diabetes, obesity and increased cholesterol level. Having a balanced and healthy diet while avoiding excess sugar, fats and external cholesterol can help Susan recover faster.
2. Atorvastatin is a drug used to prevent cardiovascular diseases in patients with abnormal LDL and HDL level. Atorvastatin can worsen diabetes in diabetic patients. Susan have diabetes mellitus and intake of atorvastatin can make it worse. It can also have some common side effects such as skin irritation and difficulty breathing for Susan.
