Use Maple to solve the problem shown below. (I know, the math is pretty easy, but that's not the point. The point is to test the capabilities of BbLearn.) Save your Maple worksheet to a PDF file and upload it here.

Note: To enter Comments into your Maple Worksheet, precede the comment with the # symbol. For example:

>f:=a*x^2+b*x+c=0;#This is a quadratic polynomial

The first part (>f:=a*x^2+b*x+c=0; ) is the Maple expression, and the second part (#This is a quadratic polynomial) is a comment.

Problem:

Pt has a work function larger than almost any other metal, 6.35 eV. What is the longest wavelength of light that can dislodge an electron from Pt metal?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given data:

Work function of Pt = 6.35 eV

We know Energy of a photon is given by:

Where E is the energy

h is the Planck's constant

c is the speed of light

is the frequency of incident light or photon

From the above equation it is clear that the as we increase the wavelength of photon the energy it has decreases. Therefore the electron dislodged from the longest wavelength of photon will have zero kinetic energy. We know that kinetic energy of the ejected electron is given by:

Where is the work function of the metal

Now for maximum wavelength the kinetic energy of the electron will be zero. Therefore we have:

Now we just have to substitute the values in above equation and solve using maple. If you want a pdf solution then I cannot help you as we don't have any option to attach pdf as a solution. We cannot even send a link to the file as we are not allowed to share any website link in the answer. I'm sharing a screenshot of the document created in maple. You can create the same by copying and pasting the above text(only text, you'll have to type equation yourself) which I've written.

After making the file in maple and typing all the required things all you've to do is export it as pdf from File->Export As... and upload it as your solution.

We also have really good desserts. We offer cookies, ice cream and superb cakes.  Last month we had 800 customers.  Our salads are considered a whole meal, so people don’t usually order another entrée with them.  Last month, we sold 400...
