Rabies
Rabies is fatal disease upto almost 100% has no cure but it is preventable at the same time.it is serious disease but neglected also.
Rabies is caused by bullet shaped virus that is rabies virus-a negative starnded RNA of rhabdovirus family.
As virus enters it affects nerve tissues firstly it enters peripheral nervous system and travels through nerves upto central nervous system.virus multiplies n affects the working of brain n spinal cord of person.
It is transmitted by animals that is it occurs through their saliva containing mucous membranes hence people gets infected by following exposure that are a scratch or bite of animal and even by their lick on broken skin.
Risk of rabies are very high in situations when there is exposure in face neck regions or at multiple sites or genitalia.usually rabid animal bites on hands and fingers.
At the time when rabies symtoms are seen they are incurable.only when if treatment started immediately after exposure it is treatable and preventable.and this will also happens only if victim follows all recommendations given by their doctors on time.
Treatment includes supportive care immediately after person is bitten by rabid animal and not yet seen any symptoms.
There is extremely most effective post exposure treatmentfor rabies and it includes injection of rabies immune globulin.first vaccination should be taken immediately after exposure and then vaccines follow on days 3,7,14 and given over 28day period.
