While technology is a great tool it should not be the absolute answer when it comes to educating our kids. agree or disagree? why?
To me, the future of education technology is the cloud. Technology can often pose an obstacle to learning and teaching. I think the cloud is going to go a long way to remove the obstacle. By doing away with the number of things that may go wrong.
Schools, ready for the future will only need one major thing. We won't need installed software, servers or local file storage. Schools need fast, reliable internet connection. Infrastructure is key to the development of educational technology. We don't know what will become of the new' in' device in the future. What we know, is that the cloud will need it. Schools and other educational institutions will need to make their facilities as future-proof as possible.
This should happen now. If you want to continue using mobile technology in your school, your communication must be fast and reliable whether it is an iPad program or a program to bring your own device (BYOD). Buy in is so critical to both student and teacher. If the network is sluggish and things are not working properly, students do not want to use the apps and teachers will not. Before the apps make sure the network is there.
Teachers can use the cloud for online setting, collecting and grading. Students will be able to access ratings, feedback and work immediately via a computer, smartphone or tablet. This is already being achieved by many colleges. Alternatively, sites like the Edmodo virtual educational network provide this for free.
This is where appliances come in. All computers, irrespective of which ones we will be using in the future, will have to access the cloud. Every student gets their own. Either a school-specified device, or one they have chosen to bring in themselves. What we need to note is that they have to be tested as schools adopt new technologies and services. As a teacher, you know if they are good and what needs to be improved. Staff will also need training, if they are not enthusiastic consumers or developers, then you can't expect staff to use new technology. Every project is doomed to failure without well-trained, committed workers who can see how technology can help teaching and learning and profit.
