Case Study

Management Team of PepsiCo was concerned on the dropping market shares in the Asia Pacific Region in 2017-18 and and Coca Cola gaining its market share significantly.

Brainstorming showed that the Coke Zero and Diet Coke sales were picking up strongly across thr APAC markets and the advertising campaign was also a very impactful one.

Data showed that people were showing an inclination towards the sugarfree options in Cola Drinks and Pepsi was unable to gain the traction in this growing market.

Was the advt agency at fault? Was the dealer network not able to penetrate the markets? Was Sales Force attrition the route cause as it had increased from 15% to 20% over the previous year.

Pepsico had also taken a 5% price increase in its Pepsi Light brand in 2017 FY beginning.

Pepsi had to have a market share recovery strategy in place to grow its business strongly in APAC in 2018-19 and give Coca Cola a run for its money.

Questions:

1.What 3 suggestions would you give to Pepsico Management on regaining the market share?

2.Is dealer network role critical in the brand success? Pl elaborate with examples.

3.Should Pepsico change its advertising strategy to get better brand awareness in the target markets.

3.Should Pepsico reduce its prices?

3.Should Pepsico create customer goodwill by promoting or associating with social campaigns promoting healthy living and lowering obesity like Coke Zero did?
