You are working as an editorial supervisor in a publishing
company. Along with editorial responsibilities, you are also
responsible for publishing a monthly magazine for all employess.
You receive an email with an article for this month from one of
your team members a day after the last date for submission of
entries. You open the article to check if it can be sent for
publishing along with the remaining articles. You find the article
interesting, but also notice several editorial mistakes in the
document. When you call your team member to discuss the revisions,
your team member informs that he is out for a medical appointment
and reminds you about his leave for next two days. You decide to
correct the editorial mistakes in the article yourself. However,
you do want to communicate the mistakes to your team member because
you find similar mistakes in most of his content submissions.
What should you do?
Select one:
a. Explain the mistakes over a telephone call after his medical appointment.
b. Meet your team member face-to-face and explain the revisions and also explain the repercussions of repeating such mistakes across most content submissions.
c. Do a web conference with your team member to discuss the corrections
d. Send a detailed email with the required corrections and explain the repercussions of repeating such mistakes across most content submissions
1.
a. The manager should investigate and confirm if the rumored worker is a substance abuser.
(If there is any news or rumours heard, the manager in the position should not show any partiality towards the person or the news, have to take action. There should be an investigation about the news before taking any actions)
b. Manger should terminate the worker if the investigation confirms substance abuse by the worker.
(Company policies were against the substance abuse and substance abuser or any illegal stuffs. So he should be terminated before the company name gets involved, if the investigation confirms)
d. Manager should start looking for a new reliable worker to add to the team.
(A mananger should foresee the situation and have two think both the sides, positive aide nad negative side. If the investigation proves that the worker use substance abuse then he have to terminate him. At that time there should not be any loss or delay for the customers so one substitute work have to be always ready)
e. If the investigation reveals that the worker was a substance abuser but has gone through a rehab cycle and is now clean, the worker can be retained in the team.
(If the investigation proves that the person is clean now, then the manager should give him a chance for his comeback in the life. One can prove only if they get chance. Background check is necessary for all work but if one person is hired and they his history is revealed then he is eligible to get a chance. This is on the basis of humanity. But as manager he should also be vigilant)
f. Manager should discuss the organization policy regarding substance abuse with the worker.
(Also its manager duty to educate the organisation policies with his employees so that they should know they will be terminated if anything done against the policy.)
2.
d. Send a detailed email with the required corrections and explain the repercussions of repeating such mistakes across most content submissions
(Telephonic conversation intimating the correction is not the exact communication method to make the person understand. Sending a mail which is an official communication method. Also he can get the clear idea about the repeated mistakes with his content submission. And it would be a proof as a memo/warning letter that if this repeats in future then appropriate action can be take. Also this can act as reprecussion notification for his further actions.)
