Drawbacks of maintaining DNA databases such as CODIS ad tools to solve crimes are as follows -
- Possibility of fake matches will increase as we are increasing samples in the national DNA database which will lead to the arrest of innocent peoples.
- Police can alter the sample collection process from the crime scene by changing the sample or by damaging the sample under the pressure of any over power and over pressurize peoples which will lead to the discrimination among the groups.
- Partial DNA matches could be considered if the police not be able to find a match in the database which will lead to various innocent peoples arrest.
- Storage of these data digitally are eligible for hackers to steal and leak them in the public.
- Also the database may result in the discrimination of individuals for the job and visa.
- Creating and maintaining database incur the high cost which is not feasible.
- Infringement of individual's privacy is also violating when we are storing their DNA information on the database.
- Damage to DNA sample may be happen during the collection, extraction and storage.
