Evaluate at a minimum of two different historical perspectives regarding the delivery of healthcare in the United States. How has the technology and the lack of developing technology affected and shaped these perspectives?
The healthcare delivery system in America is changing from past few decades. Many ups and downs in the field have shaped the present outlook of American health care system. Due to the lack of technologies and advance opinions, the perception towards the system varied. Physicians being the sole delivery of health was finding it difficult to reach out to each patient at a time. To evaluate any diagnostic test report or the lab report, the patient needed to wait for the doctor to read it and explain it. however, the lack of medical doctors in the field only aid this task more difficult for the public as well as for the fellow treating doctor.
Another perceptive was about the hospitals. Hospitals were considered as a deadly place where it welcome death. This only strengthens the fact that people visited hospital only when they cannot be treated with a home remedy or with small hand care received by village man. Hospitals are considered when the disease becomes communicable, or the patient's condition becomes very bad.
Change in technology made it more accessible for the people to look on to their paramedical readings and tests. the waiting hours reduced, to meet a doctor to understand the reading as now everything is recorded and mentioned in detailed through technology. The widespread of internet availability plays a good role in this. Now with the aid of the internet, anyone can look into for the diagnosis with the help of symptoms, bringing down the doctor from the sole medical provider to as a confirmation of the self-found diagnosis or as a mode for a second medical opinion. However, a lack of developed technologies in some part has caused lack of movement in their area towards change. People from the various cultural background and illegal immigrants find it difficult to access most of the changing technologies may be because of ignorance or unavailability.
Contrast and describe two technological advances that have positively impacted health care delivery in the United States.
With the emergence of smartphones and computer, the life has become easier and helpful. Technology has grown in such a way that, now anybody can access their medical readings or see a doctor at the comfort of their own home.
The entry of telemedicine and electronic health records has made a quite good change in health care system.
Telemedicine - It is based on the concept to deliver and receive treatment without direct interaction with the patient or the doctor. The treatment is done through telecommunication, telephone, video call, text message etc. This service is beneficial for the rural areas where high tech hospitals and efficient doctors are not available. This is also used to obtain a second medical opinion and seeking opinion regarding the disease condition by the medical doctors.
cost-effectiveness is another main factor of telemedicine that makes it reasonable to all.
Electronic medical health record - another technology that improvises the health care system is the digital documentation and storage of health records. Instead of the traditional way of managing the patient record, the concept of the electronic medical health record is gaining popularity due to its convenient to store and exchange of the data safely without the fear of misplacement of information.
Explain how the two technological advances you selected have influenced public opinion of the changing health care system in the United States? Provide a brief summary of both positive and negative opinions.
Electronic health records and telemedicine along with the other fast-moving technologies have brought many patient-friendly changes in the health policies. Healthcare has opinionating many patient-centered policies such as Medicare, Obamacare and other private insurance policies. Many of them offering, telemedicine services and EHR with reasonable expense. However, few negative and positive expressions may also arise in public towards the changing technologies. The availability of information at the tip of the fingers, at the comfort of home and the choice, to transfer the medical data to another physician for a second opinion is very welcoming. however, the unavailability of the desired service in certain selected policies can be a drawback
Forecast how you believe these two technological advances will affect delivery and utilization of health care in the United States in the future. What other factors may simultaneously affect health care utilization?
With the benefit of telemedicine and Electronic health record, the patient can easily receive expert treatment from anywhere in the world. This will reduce the cost of travel and long waiting hour. This is beneficial for both doctor and the patient. Sharing the reports and test results will also become easier through this, as the patient and the doctor doesn't have to wait for the next scheduled date to see the result. Through EHR, the treating doctor can see the result and do the follow up in no time. I believe it is no far that, virtual medical practice will be the treatment option in United state.
