Given an RBE of 1.00 for X-rays, how many micrograys of radiation does 5.00 μSv represent?

?

Part 2 (1 point)FeedbackSee Hint
For a 50.0 kg person, how much energy does 5.0 μSv correspond to?

x 10 ?

Solutions

Expert Solution

We know,

1 Sv = 100 rem

No. of rem = No. of red * RBE

1 Gy = 100 rad

5 Sv * (100 rem/ 1 Sv) * (no. of red * RBE / 1 rem) * (1 Gy / 100 rad) = 5 Gy

Part 2:

As RBE = 1

The conversion factor is, 1 Gy = 1 J/Kg

5 Gy = 5 J/kg

For 50 kg person,

= 5 J/Kg * 50 Kg

= 250 J

= 25 * 10 J

A Geiger–Muller tube is a type of gas‑filled radiation detector. It can detect particles like X‑rays, alpha particles, and beta rays (electrons). This is useful in quantizing the activity of a radioactive source or determining if an area containing radioactive material is safe to enter. Assuming that you have 1mol of gas, if a Geiger counter is filled with 9674 Pa of argon gas at room temperature (T=23.3 °C), what is the density, ρ, of the gas in this Geiger...
