Job Hopping

Job hopping is a voluntary decision of an employee to switch jobs frequently. Here in the case of job-hopping, an employee jumps from one company to an another company within one or two years from the appointment date. The trend of job-hopping is more prevalent among youngsters especially the Millenials, who were highly criticized for this on many occasions but the fact is that it helps in their career progression. The following are the advantages and disadvantages of job rapping.

Advantages of Job Hopping

  • Job-hopping helps a person to earn more income as there will be a salary negotiation that takes place whenever a person switches his or her job.
  • It helps a person to broaden his career connections or relations.
  • It gives a person a chance to gain new knowledge and acquire skills that open up new opportunities.
  • It helps a person to find out an organization or job that fits his or her personality and taste.
  • The flexibility of job hoppers will be more compared to other employees in any organization.

Disadvantages of Job Hopping

  • Employers may be reluctant in appointing a person who switches jobs in a short duration.
  • Employers may not assign important and challenging tasks to a job hopper.
  • There is a chance for less job satisfaction.
  • It may prevent a person from building a smart career track record.
  • Job hoppers may not gain deep knowledge in any of the career areas.
