1.Discuss how ecosystem structure/function and species richness/diversity are tied to one another in terms of structure and function determining diversity, and diversity determining structure and function. How might these effects be different at local compared to global scales?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The species richness/diversity forms the structural biotic part of the ecosystem without which the ecosystem cannot exist.Functionally biodiversity helps in maintaining a balance in the ecosystem ,like nutrition balance, energy transfer balance, recycling of molecules in the environment, which altogether makes the ecosystem a dynamic stable functional unit of life in the environment. The effects of diversity on ecosystem is explained in the above pictures.

One of the central principles of Biology is the relationship between structure and function. Discuss structure/function relationship in biological membranes. Describe what they are made of, what are their functions and use examples to make the link between structure and function. Emphasis should be placed on aspects of membrane permeability
