if 760 wbc are counted in 8 large squares (4 on each side) of a hemocytometer and the dilution is 1:10. what is the WBC count per uL

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer-

According to the given question-

following valve are given -

Total number of White blood cells = 760 (present in 8 large squares)

dilution =  1 /10

here we have to calculate the White blood cells /

White blood cells / = number of wbc present in one large square Dilution factor Volume factor

here the number of wbc is given in 8 large squares so for wbc present in one large square= 760 8 = 95

so total number of wbc in one square = 95

dilution = 1 10 so the dilution factor is 1 dilution .

So dilution factor = 10

Volume factor = length height width= 0.1 mm3

So putting all the value in formula

White blood cells / = number of wbc present in one large square Dilution factor Volume factor

White blood cells / = 95 10   0.1

White blood cells / = 950 0.1 = 9500

White blood cells / = 9500 / mm3 = 9500 10 6  cells / Litre.

it can we calculated as

White blood cells / = number of wbc present in one large square Dilution factor Area (mm3) depth

= 760 10 8 0.1

= 7600 0.8 = 9500 / mm3
