It has been said that we, in the United States, have lost our sense of Civility. Verbiage has become more nasty, music has become more raw, TV has become more explicit, and many of our politicians no longer treat each other with respect. What do you think?

Expert Solution

Many think that the society is becoming more civilized as days pass but the bitter truth is that the society is becoming more materialistic, individualistic, selfish and immoral. No one cares about anyone until it’s controlled by law and everyone according to social learning theory which suggests the imitation as the learning point, everyone is becoming a bad model for many.

If we look at the verbal use, people very casually use what was once considered as unparliamentary words that shouldn’t be used in the public. Popular culture, the television contribute more to in introducing strange behaviours and attitudes that are considered to be modern and trendy. No one has any respect for anyone. People stay with people and treat them with respect as long as they gain something from them such as money, sex or shelter.

The society is also increasingly becoming intolerant and abusive not just in a national level but in a global scale. They go to war in the name of terrorism and mass destructive weapons in order to satisfy people at home and finally end-up sacrificing the security of many people in the country. Politicians have started blaming each other for the downfall of the programmes. The statement is true in all aspects. May be it’s the time to go back and revisit some of the customs, norms and rules and regulations. The sooner the better and it’s better late than never.
