explain the meaning of the torch as symbol in writing

Solutions

Expert Solution

The torch is a common symbol of freedom as well as hope. The Statue of Liberty, in fact "Liberty Enlightening the World," raises the torch. Crossed reversed torches were signs of mourning found on Greek and Roman funerary monuments — a torch pointing down symbolizes death, while a torch held up symbolizes life, reality and the regenerative power of flame. The torch is also a symbol used by political groups such as the UK Labor Party and Liberals, and the Malta Labor Party, for example. The torch in the seals of schools in the Philippines symbolizes the promise of education to give all the students enlightenment.

The torch is a symbol reflecting many ideas, ideas that are reminiscent of its actual meaning, because when darkness is present there is light to lead the way. One such depiction is hope. Hope, as a term, provides an positive future that will bring about the birth of a child or the continuity of a family. Without this continuity the family will be lost to the storm, and tomorrow is lost without hope. A torch as flame, therefore, beacons the new day, the new age and a direction that is brighter than it has been before.
