Use practical examples to differentiate between Norm-referenced testing and Criterion-referenced testing.
Understand the difference between norm referenced testing and Criterion referenced testing we can take a practical example-
For this case we can take the example of a research which explores the height of children by comparing and analyzing, The goal of both approaches is the same that is to identify the average height of children but the approach is different when we look at the final scoring and how we compare them. In case of a Criterion referenced testing will you lie on a particular cutoff in the test scores by a particular student to analyse whether or not they lie in the particular criteria. In case of norm referenced learning we actually compare the height of a particular child with that of the Other children who are included in the study by the use of percentile. This can help us conclude that in norm based referencing the scoring obtained by other students may affect the story of a particular child in the study however this is not the case with criterion-referenced see where the scores of other children do not affect the pouring obtained by a particular child as a subject.
