Oman airline was founded in the year 1993. Muscat international airport is the hub of Oman Air. It has a fleet size of 53 and a destination of 54. Oman aviation group is the parent company of Oman Air. The company is headquartered in Muscat. Ahmed Bin Muhammed Al Futtaisi is the chairman of Oman Air and Abdul Aziz Al Raizi is the CEO.

Oman Air provided Domestic, International passenger services along with regional air taxi and charter flights. Development of Oman Air rooted from the establishment of Oman International Services OIS. In the year 1977 OIS established Aircraft engineering division and in the same year the company overtook Gulf Air's aircraft division. Oman Aviation service became a joint-stock company in the year 1981 it also purchased 13 aircraft from Gulf Air. The company commenced jet service along with Gulf Air in the very next year.

Later in 1993 Oman Air was established. The first flight flew from Muscat to Salalah. First international flight flew to Dubai within months of its establishment followed by flight to other destinations around the world. From 1995 - 1997 its services were commenced in Mumbai, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Chennai. In 1998 Oman air was admitted in International aviation agency trade group IATA. Since then the services of Oman air experienced a steady growth. In 2007 Oman government increased its stockholding ion the company to 80 percent from 33 percent. In 2007 Oamn Air commenced Long - haul services to Bangkok and London. In march it became first international airline to offer both mobile phone and Wi-Fi internet services on selected routes. In 2010 Oman government increased the stake in the company to 99.8%.

In 2011, Oman air wonm the gold award for 'Airline of the year' at France's Laurier d'Or Du Voyage d'Affairs. and in 2017 it received the award for best airline staff service in Middle East at Skytrax Worl Airline Awards in a row. The company bagged four awards in different categories in the year 2019.

Oman Air commenced its services to UK from the year 2007. Oman Air provide holiday, Cargos international flights to United kingdom.
