Give three features of the differential pair circuit in IC analog design
Question: Give three features of the differential pair circuit in IC analog design
Answer: Generally while studying about the active circuits we have spent almost time on studying about single ended amplifier configurations such as common-source, common-gate, emitter-follower but the fact is that the differential pair amplifiers dominate modern analog IC's because of the following features .
1. Differential pair naturally reduces or eliminates the noise and any type of interference present in both input signal because it provide gain not to one input signal but to the difference between two input signals which means it eliminates the noise. So it is not wrong to say that it provide better immunity to environmental noise.
2. It will remove DC offset present in both input signals and in turn gain is applied only to the signal of interest which means it particularly suppresses the common mode signals. which is very beneficial particularly in IC designing which reduces the need of bulky dc-blocking capacitors .
3. As we say that differential pair will provide the gain to the difference between two input signals this subtraction make it easy to incorporate the negative feedback amplifier and which is very good because we have many advantages of negative feedback amplifier over many amplifiers as it provides better stability, better tolerance to the variations , stabilisation and it also increases the amplifier bandwidth .
