Should there be a major national effort to restore these troubled youths using a holistic, non-punitive approach that recognizes the special needs of children? How would you convince kids to stop taking risks? (300-400 words)
According to Research about 1.5 Million youths are arrested each year for crimes ranging from loitering to murders. Most concerning thing is that out of 1.5 Million youths who have been arrested for various criminal charges, the number of Juveniles (minors) is alarmingly high. These youth offenders or troubled youths are now recognized as serious social problems. State Juvenile authorities must deal with these troubled youths along with responding to a range of other social problems such as child abuse and neglect, crimes happening in schools, drug abuses and domestic violence against children. Need of the hour is to initiate and execute national efforts for these troubled youth with holistic, pragmatic and non-punitive approaches. The primary focus should be on restoring and rehabilitating these youths so that they can be a part of nation building process.
Research has also shown that many adolescents may be too immature to understand how dangerous risk taking can be and unable to assess potential dangers of risk-taking.Youths commonly become involved in risky behaviour as they negotiate the hurdles of adolescent life, learning to drive, date, drink, work, relate and live. We should interact with these children in a very careful manner. Our approaches should be friendly and not hostile. We should first befriended with them and try to know why these children are behaving in such a particular manner. We then prepare our groundwork to deal with risk taking children.
