An employee you have had for over 10 years named Ryan who identifies as a male comes to work after an extended vacation asking to be called Alecia and now identifies as a woman. If you are a manager with a close knit crew of people who have also known Ryan for an extended period of time, how would you deal with this situation? What would need to be discussed with Ryan and with the other employees? What emotions might you expect from your employees and how will you manage them?

Expert Solution

Ryan into Alecia case :

Generally as human beings whether it is female or male we have to treat them as humans first . As for me or to the company employees it was an absurd situation . Employees in the company may not take it as a normal thing . Especially with the women employees it was hard to accept him like that.

I would deal this situation upon the basis of FREE WILL of a person . I want to tell to my employees that it was unexpected but ,we cannot do anything about him . Like something bad happened to our daily lives we have to accept it as it was . We can't change it again . It was a decision taken by him . It will be an hard task to the employees to deal with him like that . The first thing i can do is to make employees to feel it like the normal thing . To make it a normal thing some days has to be pass away . I can't put him away from both the girls and boys . Someone has to mingle with him such that he can work peacefully. Otherwise he will be mentally disturbed and feels like he was alienated . I say to my employees that we have to understand him.

With Ryan :

The thing which I want to say to ryan is that , the decision which you have taken is not a normal one . I and the company employees are totally disgusted by the decision you have taken . So it may take some time to make everything normal . And you have to adjust with the situations and any kind of unusual things happened to you . I am assuring you everything will become normal but it takes time.

With company employees :

We know Ryan from so many years together . We have not expected that he will do like this . He has taken very bold decision that is irrevocable . Other than adjusting with him we cannot do anything right now . I know the situation is a little bit absurd to deal with him to move with him like before . But as human beings And as fellow employees we have to tolerate him . Distancing from him is not the solution for this problem . I hope that everything will become normal and and I hope that he will be mingled with you in all kinds of project works and in all activities.

Emotions from my employees and managing them :

/ They may ask that - he was not totally a boy or a girl how could we deal with him - I would say them you have to treat him like a human and work with him as normal.

/ We don't want to work with him the employees may say - I say that ,I can remove him from the job but, as a friend of us from many years we can't do like that to him. So you have to adjust with him.

/ Weather to put him in female cabin or men cabin ?? - I say to them I will arrange a special place where we will keep him in equi distance from both employees. I have already told him that you have to bear some kind of unusual things because as he made an absurd decision .
