3. Carla (200 lbs) is a 27 year old female that decides to start a fitness program. She decides to walk on a treadmill at an average pace of 3.3 mph and an incline of 10%. Use the ACSM metabolic equation for walking.
4. Greg Lemond-a world level professional cyclist- cycles on a Monark ergometer at a pedal cadence of 80 RPM and a resistance setting of 5 kg. He weighs 70 kg.
5.) What is the predicted relative VO2 for a 225 lbs man cycling at a resistance of 98 watts (2 points
Answer (3) - While walking-
VO2 gross - 0.1 speed + 1.8 (speed) ( fractional grade) + 3.5
Speed = 3.3 mph = 3.3 × 26.8 = 88.4 m/min
= 0.1 × 88.4 + 1.8 × 88.4 × 0.1 + 3.5
= 28.26 ml/kg/min
Cardiovascular endurance = (Aerobic fitness ) body's ability to deliver O2 to muscles to work. Lungs consume O2 from breathing which is delivered to the working muscles by blood vessels and heart. This oxygen is utilized to perform work and muscular contractions.
VO2 is like an index for body's efficiency at work. Expressed in millilitres of oxygen consumed per minute and for body weight , it is ml/kg/min.
- Factors influencing VO2max -
Gender, age, heredity, training, body composition.
VO2max with age - decreases ( approximately 2% per year after age 30) .
Oxygen consumption in males is greater than females.
Stages -
Stage 1 - GFR is greater than 90ml/min ( Normal or high)
Stage 2 - GFR = 60- 89ml/min ( mild CKD)
Stage 3 -
(A) Moderate CKD ( GFR = 45-59 ml/min)
(B) Moderate CKD ( GFR = 30- 44 ml/min)
