1) Situation – It was an International Management fest in College where students come across the world to participate in this fest for various games like HR, Finance, marketing, operations etc. I was heading the judges and guest team. We as a team of 5 members were supposed to invite various professionals from different industry to judge the rounds in the game.
2) I took this initiative because it was the best opportunity to work on lot of competency like Art of decision making, managing work, leadership skill, persistence etc. when u work as a team, you get more than one idea to overcome a risk faced during performing the assigned job. And we develop new competencies from each other. It also makes you realise how teamwork is more powerful than individual work.
3) Everyone is part of the team for two reasons, one is individual motive and other one being to achieve a common goal. If you as a team leader or one of the members can align your personal goals with the common goal, he/she will be successful in what ever they do. When you achieve the goal there is a sense of satisfaction you receive from the work being done and it motivates you to grab as many opportunities to grow.
4) Before taking any steps all the members were informed and were asked for suggestion because at the end it was them who were performing the task. They were asked to come up with different alternatives to the problem faced by them and work on it. This exercise made them take the ownership of the job performed by them.
5) There was a set of rules and regulations which was to be followed by the team members. It was made sure that each one of them follow the same while performing the job. Timings and deadlines were strictly followed. There are times when the environment around will be not supportive to do your job, but as a leader my duty was to motivate them to complete the job.
6) Once the goal was successfully achieved everyone were awarded with certificates and special awards for putting in individual contribution. These rewards are some of the motivation given to the members to take initiative and perform better in job.
