3. To be effective, a national drug policy should be affordable, accessible, sustainable, and transparent. In your opinion, what obstacles prevent Canada from achieving these goals? What solutions do you recommend to minimize the effects of these obstacles?
Answer: Controlled Drug and substances Act is the Canada's main law dealing with the menace of drug and related problem.
It's necessary that a policy should be comprehensive,sustainable, transparent and efficient to be effective at ground level.
Drug Policy in canada have many important steps in its successful implementation like it foucuses on 5 important pillars i.e. Prevention,Treatment,enforcement,Harm reduction and Evidence including funding.
Indeed they are all important pillars and when implemented effectively then can provide beneficial results.
There are some obstacles in its proper implementation like :
A coordinated approach is very important for bursting a drug realted racket and for this an effective coordination among various departments and realted provinces is needed.
Their is also need of taking strong actions against problems of Opioid which needs strong political will and consensus.
There should be equal importance to be given for rehabilitation process as well which is lacking in lane of efforts.
There are some suggestions like ite been said prevention is better than cure so try to eliminate this menace by acquiring effective councelling for youngs,changes in their lifestyle and behaviour like more focus on physical exercise and Yoga and mediation which heals from stress and Dipression like problems.Which are a cause of this addiction.
A bold step suggested by some is decriminalisation of drug causing the opioid epedemic.
Need of more comprehensive and coordination based approach among related departments to eliminate this problem.
