what is the summary of On Fairy Stories, J. R. R. Tolkien?
The essay "On fairy stories" is one where Tolkein refers to the importance of fairy tale stories, its concept, and the exact genre to which it belongs. He compares fairy stories with three others such as traveler's tales, dream vision, and beast fables. He points out that the language used in fairy tale stories as so strong that they are very much persuasive in making us feel the different and rational world narrated in the story which is different from the one we currently live on. He points out 3 theories concerning the origin of these stories. They are independent evolution, diffusion, and inheritance. He also points out that two elements stand tall in all fairy stories irrespective of the time, place, or reason they are created. They are love and heroism. Reading of fairy stories always gives us an escape which is temporary from the grief and stress we experience in the real world today.
