BASF engaged in environmental protection and social issues since 1994. Present chairman for BASF is Martin Brudermuller. Jurgen strube prior chairman introduced vision 2010 on sustainability at BASF.

BASF analyze and evaluate production process to manage the sustainability according to sustainability criteria with sustainable steering method. BASF is more profitable in China. It also deals with making crackers and isocyanates. At BASF innovation and sustainability are inextricably linked. In April 2019 oil and gas business of winter shall and DEA merged by BASF. New innovations of digitalizing in agriculture on seeds, traits and crop protection.

BASF helps in changing the UN sustainability development goals. For climate protection BASF trying to lower the Corbon dioxide emissions and target is to grow co2 neutrally until 2030 under carbon management program. BASF is founding member of Alliance to end plastic waste. Cooperate with 40 other companies to utilize the plastic waste for good use. It also introduced "Green Deal" in new european commission to achieve climate targets. BASF also creating women empowerment by giving leadership within the BASF groups. It's decided to use more of the renewable electricity to conserve the resources.
