The concept of energy security was born out in 1970s during the oil crisis, which not only created an awareness of the idea of energy security but also spurred the creation of the International Energy Agency. United Nations has defined energy security as '' the continuous avilability of energy in varied forms,in sufficient quantities,and at affordable prices''. Following are the examples of energy security.

  • Diversification:

Diversification of generation capacity- to allow prices to remain reasonably stable

  • Investment:

Investment is essential to keep a steady supply of energy flowing.Investment also plays a key role in the development of new technologies which can make the production of energy more efficent.

  • Information:

The flow and dissemination of information is also important.perfect information can lead to better decision making and in the context of global energy markets ,information is crusal to prevent the deepening of a shock to the market.

The interconnection of energy systems,particularly electricity,must be considered.
