Objective: Demonstrate knowledge of ethical theories, structure, signposting, and sufficient explanation. This means sufficient explanation must include application of ethical theories and more than one paragraph. Instructions: Provide a detailed argument to the following question: Is it okay (morally permissible) to eat a McDonalds hamburger?
Human beings have evolved as the master species in the world and they control and raise most of the livestock which help them with the food supply. This would mean that it’s natural food cycle because if all the animals stop hunting for their food, then the natural food cycle would be incomplete and many would die of hunger. However, only human beings have the much-needed thinking ability and reasoning ability to decide things for themselves. Deep ecology suggests that all the living creatures have their own right to live on this earth which should mean that they shouldn’t be hunted and killed for the pleasures of human beings. Peter Singer suggests that human beings should responsibly use their resources or the other animals at their disposal and not use them as they wish. Thus, eating a hamburger is morally permissible but the overeating would be a problem under this ethical view because this would need more animals to be slaughtered.
