Structural unemployment refers to the type of unemployment which occurs due to industrial reorganisation or technological advancements and not due to shifts in supply and demand. Old workers who are not very techno-savy are most susceptible to structural unemployment or when even the skilled workers do not match the industrial requirement in terms of technology. When workers are replaced by machines and technology become obsolete, people are unemployed. Such people who are not able to keep up with technological advancemments are most susceptible to structural unemployment.

In the face of technological advancement, one should be updated with the new upcoming technology. One should be well verse with any changes in the work industry and should be prepared for any changes. One should keep an attitude of learning and should be open to learning at any point of time to avoid losing jobs in the technological advancements. For example: we could see the growing need of AI and we can predict where all it could come and replace people, so we should be well verse with AI techniques and should start learning programming language and related topics to be well prepared for any technological advancements.
