Provide a brief overview of the traditional methods of performance appraisal methods and distinguish these with the modern methiods of performance appraisal
Every appraisal method has its own strength and weakness and one method if it is suitable for one organization then it is not necessary that the same is suitable for the other organization. The same is because of the reason is every individual has its own behaviour so as the company.
Many author has classified it in different category but the most common category is traditional and the modern approach. The basic difference among the two is, in modern approach the more emphasis is laid on the work performed by the individuals whereas under traditional approach the emphasis is put on individual personality traits.
Some of the examples of traditional method of appraisal is Graph, Multiple choice rank order and some other method whereas under modern approach it includes self appraisal, Behaviourally Anchored Rating Scales, Behavioural Observation Scales and other methods.
