The research paper is aimed at developing a quantifiable measure of the logistic service capability. It takes in to account the entry of foreign firms in Chinese logistic sector and the inefficiency of the domestic Chinese firms to provide quality services.
The researchers initially, studied all the relevant functions pertaining to logistics service quality and arrived at a definition of logistic service capability as " The ability to meet the demands of its customer and to create value to its customer and to win customer identity".
Based on the definition they attempt to delineate important components of service capability and arrive at six important components of service capability. They further devide the six components of service capability to 20 measurable indicators.
Analyzing further, they found that the there are some more important indicators amongst the given 20 indicators. Taking advantage of the expert consultations, they select the final eight measures to develop a composite score of logistic service capability.
The researchers choose the method of correlation matrix to ascertain the importance of all selected service capability indicators and arrive at a comprehensive understanding of the service capability measures.
The research thus provides a valuable contribution to the logistics industry by putting forth the main components of service capability and ways to measure and decide on improving the areas requiring attention. It provides the users of the service a yardstick to choose the best players to partner with also.
