The message that was propagated by "common sense" was fairly simple. He stated that the system of monarch was highly corrupt, and that the Britishers should not have been ruling over America. The basic idea behind naming the pamphlet common sense was so that his ideas would reach to the common man. He did not want to appeal to the elitist class or the bourgeoisie, but to the very people who make the idea of nation come true.
what did not make common sense was why was America still being governed by Britain. He wanted a democratic republic to be created. He referred to the size of the American continent and was surprised how an island was still governing on such a huge mass of land.
he invoked thought by using metaphors. He created his points of view such that it couldn't be opposed. Essentially, independence from Britain was just or right because:
- Britain was draining America of the economic wealth it had
- it had created a form of market
for the goods manufacture in Britain.
- cultural and identity crisis was being developed,
- stark corruption in the monarchy meant stripping away more of wealth
- hindrance to the growth of America and trade between the different colonies, out of the 13 colonies,
- not allowing America to reach its true potential.
