Briefly discuss the rise of the gig economy in Australia and
which firms dominate?
Who are the main players (e.g. Uber, AirB&B, etc.) How did
these firms get so big so quickly? How many people in Australia are
employed in this sector?
In this new world, many workers are likely to work as freelance instead of the usual employment. Initially, the freelance work could be only seen in the fields of consulting, writings and designs. But presently, it can be also seen in higher industries and occupation levels. Most of the workers turned into freelance due to the 9 to 5 working period in the usual employment systems. This resulted in digital freelance market regions. Now an individual can choose their likely career and work for a time suitable for them without any stress. This system is termed as gig economy.
Airnb, Amazon Flex, Cabify, Care.com, Etsy, Figure Eight, Fiverr, Uber, Task rabbit are the most dominant Gig economy companies.
The companies became big quickly due to the rise of social media and the competitions around the world. Social media helped the people to connect with each other worldwide. This resulted in the rise of netflix, airnb, uber, spotify etc. The gig companies also tries to bring the most expert during the transition period instead of permanent staffs. Thus company can attain new innovative projects and rise easily.
Among the total working peoples in Australia, seven percent of them are employed in gig economy sector. Morethan hundred of various freelance digital platforms had signed up by them.
