A significant number of inmates at all levels of corrections is made up of the mentally ill/handicapped. What is the impact of these inmates on the operations of a corrections facility, how many are there, what are their crimes? What is being done to properly treat the them? Mental disorders are caused to many jail inmates due to committing crime in various forms in the society leading to stress and depression. The jail inmates suffer from the increased incidence of crime. The health of the criminals gets worsened due to lack of infrastructure, health facilities and treatment by medicines at correct time. There are incidences of torture which worsen the health of prisoners. There are increased incidences of crime in the society, violence, crime, murder and juvenile crimes which lead to various crimes in the society. The mental diseases of the patients are not easily diagnosed and there is lack of awareness among the criminals regarding the incidences of mental diseases and illnesses in the society. This occurs due to the inhabitation of criminals in poor conditions of health and hygiene. There are various rules of legislation which are sanctioned for the benefit and insurance of the health of the patients in the society. There should be availability of doctors and nurses for examining the patients during incidences of illness in the criminal chambers in the jail. The prisoners should not be exposed to intake of narcotics and drugs which increases the incidences of hallucinations, stress and depression. The human rights also prohibits the rights against the misuse and abuse of the prisoners in the society. The prisoners are kept in special areas where they are provided work for their benefit with minimum earnings for the livelihood and living. They are rehabilitated in regions where they can again think about their life and ways to improve their mental conditions before entering the society again. In 1996 ,federal government inacted a rule against the free-will of the prisoners for relief in the judicial proceedings against the crime which has been committed by them in the society. It is called as the Prisoner Litigation Reform Act.( PLRA).
