* Most people find the type of equality depicted in “Harrison Bergeron” unacceptable. Would you object to a society that sought equality not by handicapping the gifted but by lifting up the ungifted, through genetic engineering or biotechnological enhancements? Can you think of any problems that might occur?
I prefer the lifting up of those who are ungifted, but not using genetic engineering or biotechnological enhancements in general, because first it is unnatural, second it disturbs the balance among different social classes and third it can be excessively misused to ensure that everyone becomes most intelligent using genetic engineering or biotechnological enhancements. Besides, it is also unethical in nature. Hence, I would object to the methods mentioned. Rather, I would like to help these ungifted people via education support, skill development programs, affirmative action plan and cash assistance among the others.
genetic engineering or biotechnological enhancements should only be used to eliminate the diseases, deficiencies and other non-curable problems related to genetics. It is the proper and best use of genetic engineering or biotechnological enhancements.
If genetic engineering or biotechnological enhancements occurs, then everyone will become same and balance will be disturbed. For example, if everyone becomes computer engineer, then who will do the work that is at the lower end of the value chain. The second problem is the ethics and people will pay huge amount to get genetic engineering or biotechnological enhancements to make their kids, become best or top talent, rather going through the grills of hard work and competition with the peers.
