a.   Identify 4 (four) measures of performance of the queueing system.
b.   Which measure is considered the most important for the service company? Why?
c.   Referring to the Dupit case as discussed in class, please state at least 2 (two) recommendations that can effectively shorten the waiting time in the queue, Wq. How do you choose the best recommendation? Which factors do you consider? Explain.

Ans(a) : Queuing system is about the management of the people who are standing in the queues. There are some measures which would affect the performance of the queue system which are listed below :

  1. Mean of the minimum and maximum customers in the queue.
  2. Variance of the number of customers standing in the queue.
  3. The waiting time in the queue.
  4. The density of people per unit are in the queue.

All these above measures will be responsible in the performance of moving of any queue.

Ans(b) :The most important measure for the service company regarding the performance of the queue will be the waiting time in the queue. It is just because it will help to know about the movement speed of the people and the customers will be more happy with the company if the waiting time of queue is less and due to that it would attract more customers. Other factors are also important such as density because it will determine the crowd in the queue and people would prefer to use the queue with less crowd but the priority will be given to the waiting time.

Ans(c) : Referring to Dupit case few recommendations case can be made to reduce the queue time such as :

  1. Changes should be made and progress should be done over time.
  2. Strategies should be build previously so that there is no delay in time and work are done with good speed.

The factors which are observed to reduce the queue time are the customer comfort and the speed of the work. If the speed of the work would increase, there will be increase in the movement of the queue and hence above two recommendations should be considered at the time of queue management or movement.
