Scatter diagrams allow us to see relationships between two variables. Cite an example of two variables that might have a strong positive relationship. What would that scatter diagram look like? Next, cite an example of two variables that have very little relationship and describe what that scatter diagram would look like. Last, tell us why illustrating data in this way is helpful.
Can this be typed out? It's for a discussion board.
Example - Strong positive relationship
Number of hours devoted to studying daily and the final exam scores.
Now the more the number of hours devoted daily to studying, the higher would be the final exam scores. These two variables show a very strong positive relationship. The scatter diagram will look something like this:-
Example - very little relationship
Petrol Prices and Temperature
Now the petrol prices and Temperature have a very little common ground, almost have no relationship. The scatter diagram will look something like this:
Illustrating the data using a scatter diagram lets us know immediately whether the variables have any sort of linear relationship or not. People are more visual, and scatter diagrams are a perfect way of enabling us to get a rough idea about the relationship of the variables under consideration.
