What are the differences between IPv4 and IPv6?

What is the format of an IPv4 address?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Key features only mentioned below in differences between IPv4 and IPv6

IPv4 address format:

IPv4 has format like x.x.x.x

IPv4 address is 32 bit in length. Where x is decimal values and they are sepated by (.)s.Decimal values range between 0-255.

IPv4 address consists of 4 octets ( x in the format shown above) each with 8 bits consisting Network ID and Host ID

It has variable header of minimum length 20 bytes and maximum 60 bytes

For an example of IPv4 address: 128.89.64.78
