Central Appalachia has a poverty rate three times higher than the rest of the United States. Unemployment, prescription drug addiction, and complex family dynamics are some of the challenges these people face on a daily basis. This ABC documentary from 2009 explores the challenges faced by this region of the country. In your posts, please comment on the things that stood out to you. Do you see these problems in your community? What do you believe are some potential solutions to these problems?

Unemployment is a major problem faced by the individuals in most of the nations. It is the condition by which education, qualified or phsically fit individuals are not getting job. More than financial costs, unemployment also provides other problems to an economy. This condition also cause health and mindset problems. This can also affect the mental stability and can take them to the field of crimes.

Prescription drug abuse is the use of medicines in our intention or without the prescription of any doctors. It is major problem which is highly seen in the adultsor teenagers. This can cause severe brain damges. Thus it takes over our self control and many physical abilities.

Family dynamics means how the members in a family are related or interconnected. Only a good family dynamics can provide good behaviors or mental health to the children or young ones in a family. But due to many family problems, normal family dynamics are getting converted into complex family dynamics. Thus this also one of the challenges faced by many individuals.

Yes, these problems are also in my community.

Some of the solutions to reduce unemployment are :

  • Proviing low interest rates and improving credit supplies to business.
  • Implementation of infrastructure investment projects.
  • Reductions in the rate of national insurance contributions.
  • Provide financial supports for paid internships.
  • Reduction in all the types of taxes.
  • Teaching new skills and providing better fund for effective work training.

Clinicians, patients and pharmacists plays a major role in preventing prescribed drug abuse.

  • Prescription drug monitoring programs can be used.
  • Physicians should control the patient's medical needs upto a certain limit.
  • Patients should also take certain control measures for the use of medicines.

Solutions to complex family dynamics problems are :

  • Always don't make actions to control the difficult member in the family and always try to encourage them.
  • Always be present to the family situations.
  • Try to avoid or not engage in the problems that are not concerned to us.
