The single most important reason for decline in illegal
immigration between 2007 and 2009 was the Great Recession. The
unauthorized immigrant population of U.S. stabilized at the end of
Great Recession, because the immigration rate from Mexico declined
but same for the other regions of the world increased. Asia,
Central America and some regions of Africa were the regions from
where the unauthorized immigrants left and came to other regions of
world. Mexico was the country where the number of unauthorized
immigrants declined steadily since 2007, which was also the first
year of recession. That is why Great Recession is considered to be
the single important reason for the cause. Great Recession caused
decline in unauthorized immigration of people, as the countries
facing recession became very particular about the international and
its population related affairs.
The illegal immigration may obviously fall, because as the word
says, it is illegal. Migration of people from one country to
another violating the rules and laws of that country is unethical
in the eyes of international as well as domestic law. The
immigrants affect the jobs, wages, and poor classes of the country
where they migrate to. Crossing the international boundaries
illegally is now also considered to be a terrorist activity which
is a threat for every country.
