1. (Data Below) Outside Magazine tested 9 different models of day hikers and backpacking boots. The following data show the upper support and price for each model tested. Upper support was measured using a rating from 1 to 5, with a rating of 1 denoting average upper support and a rating of 5 denoting excellent upper support.

  1. Use these data to develop an estimated regression equation to estimate the price of a day hiker and backpacking boot given the upper support rating. Write down the estimated regression equation for this problem.
  2. At a .10 level of significance, determine whether upper support and price are related.
  3. Would you feel comfortable using the estimated regression equation developed in part (a) to estimate the price for a day hiker or backpacking boot given the upper support rating? Explain the basis for your answer.
  4. Estimate the price for a day hiker with an upper support rating of 4.
  5. Find the 90% Confidence and Prediction Intervals for the data in part (d).
  6. Provide an interpretation for the slope of the estimated regression equation.

Ten different families are tested for the number of gallons of water a day they use before and after viewing a conservation video. At the 0.05 significance level, test the claim that the mean is the same before and after the viewing. List the null and alternative hypothesis, the critical value, the test statistic with and sd. Draw the graph and label the test statistic, critical value and rejection regions. Reject or fail to reject? State the conclusion Before 33...

January of 1999, the German Auto Bild magazine randomly tested different tread patterns across all tire brands as their journalists toured from the UK to the Bulgarian coast. They discovered on one leg of the tour that out of 100 tires, or 12%, shortcomings were due to defective sidewall wire. On another leg they found 125 tires, 15% of the defects were due to poor vulcanization. a) Find an appropriate 95% confidence interval. Explain the difference in outcomes. Let poor...
