1. Area for Data Center and Cloud Application

  • When the network is located in a data center or a cloud-based solution, OSPF is a safer option.
  • As OSFP usually operates on most DC networks, it may fine-tune the firewall in the underlying network architecture and share routing details.


2. Assist from Scalability & Service Providers

  • OSPF scales faster than EIGRP, but, during troubleshooting, EIGRP is more difficult in very broad scale networks.
  • OSPF is easier to use on WAN compared to EIGRP because most service providers sponsor it. OSPF has also been executed as an IGP (Interior Gateway Protocol) in internal environments. Thus, the exchange of such routes with the OSFP is simpler.
  • Routing can get more difficult if you choose to use any other routing protocol to share the same routing information since a redistribution can take place between the already built-in OSPF and another protocol.
