Part a). Role of Government and Policy Makers: Being the facilitator, the government and the policymakers have given a digital push by tsking various initiatives to enable and accelerate digital transformation in the country such as JAM (Jan, Aadhar, and Mobile) trinity. Millions of accounts were linked to Aadhar which facilitated targeted delivery of benefits. One of the major initiatives taken by the Indian Govt. is Digital India which aims to empower citizens by providing government services electronically by upgrading digital infrastructure and improving digital connectivity. As a result of this push by the government now even in the poorest states like UP, MP, and Jharkhand are experiencing expanding internet infrastructure and mobile towers. But still, there is a lot that needs to be done. It is estimated that by 2020 there will be 700mn smartphone users and 840 million internet users in the country and to exploit this opportunity more political willingness and initiatives towards digital transformation needs to be taken. Making policies conducive to infrastructural development is the need of hours as there are still issues related to Land which plagues business development. issues related to Data localization, etc need to be reconsidered. Having favourable business policies is important to bring down the cost of doing business which can help startups and other companies to try and implement their ideas and vision of solving customers problem digitally.
Part b).Technology providers and start-up companies: While government and policymakers can provide an enabling environment to foster digital innovation, it is for the startups and technology providers to exploit the opportunities which are there. In almost every sphere such as agriculture, education, energy, financial services, healthcare, and logistics, digital transformation is changing the way these business function with improving efficiency and productivity. These businesses can create significant value in areas such as business services and job markets, enabling public sector enterprises digitally and weed out inefficiencies. In the days to come these businesses and organizations will pave the way for Digital ecosystem in India provided that the business condition improve.
