Consider the meaning of these two statements to you. Discuss....How do these relate to the Emancipation Proclamation?
"Any attempt now to separate the freedom of the slave from the victory of the government; any attempt
to secure peace to the whites while leaving the blacks in chains will be labor lost."
Frederick Douglass (1862)
"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the union, and is not either to save or destroy slavery"
Abe Lincoln (1862)
Ans. These two statements are very potent in their own rights. American history is revolving around these two statements and to some extents the degree of freedom of 'black life matters' is still questionable.
The context in the statements take us to the times when slavery prevailed in America -mostly afro American and some % of poor whites. The states were not United and for a progressive national it was imperative to draw attention & support on freeing bondaged souls.
Some state were rebellious and opposed integration of states while the civil war was at its peak. The order or decision or proclamation w(1 Jan 1863) pronounced to free people from slavery and helping them live a life of divinity.
The emancipation proclamation gave slaves asa chance to escape their masters it is said some joined national army and held positions in state adminstration ad lived a dignified lives while others don't believe it to be true.
To am extent it helped close the civil war and unite present USA.
