In the following scenarios identify the Reality, the test, Sensitivity, Specificity, False Negative, and False Positive. Then explain which is worse (if either) a False Negative or a False Positive.
1. A Drug Test:
a. Reality:
b. Test:
c. Sensitivity:
d. Specificity:
e. False Negative:
f. False Positive:
g. Which is worse:
Drug Test:
a. Reality : Person has actually taken the drug.
b. Test : Test correctly identifies the person as one who has taken the drug.
c. Sensitivity: Sensitivity is the proportion of people detected by the test as being drug taker, out of all the people who have actually consumed the drug.
d. Specificity : Sensitivity is the proportion of people detected by the test as NOT being drug taker, out of all the people who have actually NOT consumed the drug.
e. False Negative: It is the number of people detected by the test as NOT being drug taker, but who are actually drug takers.
f. False Positive : It is the number of people who are NOT actually drug takers but test identifies them as drug takers.
g. Objective of Drug test is to catch those people who have illegaly consumed the drug. Hence, False Negative is the worse than False positive.
