Expert Solution

Ethical theories provide a theoretical framework that guides a persons conduct when faced with an ethical dilemma.Although there are in total three approaches to applying ethical theory which include-Utilitarian,Deontological and Virtue based ethics, this case is of an organization and the most suited approach would be the use of Deontological Ethics as that is guided by ones own sense of duty and responsibility and the rest have a sense of greater good and virtue influence in them.

The few items that can be included in terms of employment after an oil spill are-

  • Notifying the risks-It is important to start any agreement with clearly reading out the risks associated with carrying of such a job.
  • Most suited Compensation-A very important clause to be added is of providing employees with compensation for anything that affects their well being within the course of carrying out official work.
  • Health benefits-Considering the fact that the employees are indulging in works that puts their health at risk, there must be a loud policy providing benefits for the employees.
  • Medical insurance-Since any incident, derailment or spill has an impact on the health of the employee, they must be provided with a medical insurance covering their expenses.
  • Commitment to create a safe workspace-The employees have a right and should be given a safer worek nvironment and work done on making it safer should be shared with the employees as well.
  • Grievance Redressel-The employees must be provided with safe opportunities to express any disillusionment with whatever policies they find a conflict in
  • Feedback and involvement-A policy that is clearly needed in an organization that experiences an accident is a continuous feedback on policies that affect them and the organization together. These must be encouraged through terms of employment that may demand a meeting once in a while to discuss the same
  • Support of a mental health expert-Terms of services should most importantly include regular consultations with experts and that feedback should be included in the appraisal.
  • Non-Discrimination-Post an accident, people who are capable to carry a job should be given the job instead of letting biases come in offering work.
