Define galvanic cell? Explain the construction, working and uses of Daniel cell.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Contruction =

it consists of copper electrode immersed in copper sulphate an a zinc electrode immersed in zinc sulphate solution. Both are connected by salt bridge. It contains potassium nitrate and balance the ions in both half cells.

Working.

Zinc is oxidized at anode which means loss of electrons, these electrons travel through wire and are pulled into copper cathode, at which reduction occurs... this provides a electrical current that illuminates a bulb.

Uses.

It is portable source of electricity.

It can be used for making batteries.

Source of electricity in telegraph systems.
