It is not always true that employees form an union only when they are not satisfied with the employers. Unions may be formed even when the employees have a cooperating relationship with the employees.
Usually employers and unions tend to be on the opposite sides of the bargaining table with each group representing diverging interests.So it is important to maintain cooperation and collaboration between the both groups. Their mutual aim must be to improve organizational performance and sustainability which benefits both the employers and the employees.
There must be mutual respect between the two groups. The employers must appreciate the efforts of the employees and the employees much appreciate their workplace and the opportunities available. Having a mutual respect will facilitate negotiations and ensure that neither party takes a hard stance.
There must be regular communication between the employers and the employee unions. This improves the quality of working relationships and minimizes conflicts. The communication must be on issues ranging from current market competition, organizational performance, and important business developments that may affect the working conditions..
Employers can proactively make policies which are employee friendly and which can help the employees feel more secure and comfortable in doing their jobs. This will not only improve the employee morale, but also improves the overall organizational performace and profitability. Employers must follow best labour pratices and fair business practices treating the employees fairly and properly.The employers must to active on social media in maintaining relations with the employees, addressing their concerns and holding discussions with them on areas of improvement. Employers can further maintain partership with employees so that each group gets a fair share of the profits. This will motivate the employees to give their best which will help in realizing the organizational goals easily. Further employers can introduce programs related to health and wellbeing of the employees which will lead to a happy and better performing workforce.
Unions must cooperate with the employers on important decisions. They must be open to communication and always negotiate keeping in mind the factors of organizational performance and sustainability. In addition they must facilitate smooth running of the operations so that their lives do not get affected. The unions can also unite on social media along with the employers so that they can easily communicate their concerns with the employers.
Both the groups must work as a team in realizing the mutual goal of organizational performance and sustainability of operations.
