Marketing channel members ensure that the product reaches from
the manufacturing units to the end customer and it involves
distribution and marketing of the products once they are out of the
plant. In the process, they perform a number of functions depending
on their core business as highlighted below –
- Two Communication of information which includes customer demand
and sales related communication to the manufacturers and product
related information to the customers.
- Sorting and regrouping of products for easy distribution and
transportation of products.
- Storing and managing inventory in the warehouses to minimize
the costs and damage to the products.
- Distribution of products which include packing, loading,
shipping or transportation, unloading, tracking etc.
- Assuming ownership of the inventory stored and managed by the
members.
- Undertaking promotional activities to attract customers towards
purchasing the products
- Return management of the products.
- Transactional functions which include payments and
receivables
- Support from the representatives after the sale of the
products
- Facilitating functions for customers to purchase and for
manufacturers to sell the products
