1. research suggests that differences in DNA among species is not adaptive but rather both in DNA and morphology are.
a. Explain "adaptive" (evolution) (please include example)
b. Explain using examples if variations in adaptive and nonadaptive differ in usefulness in phylogenetic inference
c. Is it possible for traits that are non-adaptive to go through evolution (Eplain with a hypothetical example) (describe pressures and the situation)
1. Adaptive evolution-It is produced by natural selection. It is the changes in the organisms in order to adapt to the changing environment. The changes could be morphological or genetical.
Example is the Humans living from years in the high altitude. they will have small hands and soles, in order to avoid heat loss, and will have high hemoglobin concentration, because of the low concentration of oxygen at high altitudes.
2.Adaptive radiatiion means organs with same origin and structure, which adapt to different environments.
Non adaptive radiation means organs which dont have the same origin and structure, but they evolve according to the need of the environment.
Examples-adaptive radiation- human hands, lion paws, fins of whale, theyall have same structure but hae different functions according to the need of the habitat.
Non adaptive radiation-Hands of gorillas and monkeys, although have different origins , which hs the same utility.
c.Non adaptive traits can go through evolution by a process called genetic drift.
example-population bottleneck, and the founder effect.
